When visiting a new country or city, such as Charlotte, North Carolina, it is essential to take a few additional precautions, as you don’t know the area, the crime rate and what areas of the city are dangerous (or more dangerous than others) at night. Some easy to follow tips and common sense actually go a long way in making sure you stay safe during your stay.
Keep your valuables in the hotel, and preferably, in the hotel safe. You don’t always need your laptop computer or digital camera on hand, so keep these in the hotel. If there is no safe in the hotel, place the items in your bags, so they are out of sight.
Avoid traveling by yourself at night, and always take a taxi. In a new city such as Charlotte, North Carolina, single individuals are more likely the target of a crime such as robbery, over groups of people. Taking a taxi though keeps you off of the street, and is far safer than walking and, possibly becoming lost while traveling.
Stay in well lit areas at night. Don’t wonder off into a dark alley, as more crimes may occur to you in the dark.
